One of the most fun places to visit in Malaysia is Genting Highland in Pahang. It is just 2 hours away from Kuala Lumpur and it is also a very good option for a weekend gateway. No trip to Kuala Lumpur can be complete without a visit to Genting. Make sure you set aside at least 1 and a half days for this visit while planning your itinerary.

Planning a trip to Singapore or Bali as well, read about those places to know all the travel tips…

There are a couple of ways to reach Genting Highland from Kuala Lumpur. You can opt for a cab, a bus, or a mix of either of the two with a cable car. The roads are a little steep till the hilltop so a cable car is a good option to avoid it, in case, you feel nausea while riding on mountains.

Cabs and buses drop till your desired hotel in Genting but if your opting for a cable car then keep the following things in mind.

Cable Cars in Genting Highland

There are two types of the cable car to reach Genting Highland – Genting Skyway and the Awana Skyway. Genting Skyway is the first option that you will get while on your way to the hilltop, it will take you till the top and it is interconnected to Genting Grand Resort whereas Awana SkyWay is 10 minutes away from this cable car. It starts near the Genting Highland Premium Outlets and takes you to the Sky Avenue. SkyAvenue is the main attraction here and definitely worth a visit.

If you are on a day trip to Genting and have not booked any hotel then you must use the Awana Skyway but if you have a hotel booked then choose the one you like. Genting Skyway is the cheaper one out of the two. You can easily book the cable car tickets then and there for any of the two.

Get into the line buy your ticket and make your way to this amazing hilltop. The good thing is that each passenger is allowed to carry 1 cabin sized bag in the cable car. Oversized bags also allowed but on a ticket price for 19 Ringgits(RM). A one-way ticket is 7 RM per person and the cable operates between 0700 hrs to midnight.

Sky Avenue is like 20 minutes away after you get down of this cable car. Grab Taxi is available at the Hilltop as well so you will have no problem in traveling from one place to another.

Awana Skyway

This car is better than the previous one because of the 360-degree view it offers. Also, during this ride, you get a stop mid-way at the Chin Swee Caves Temple to explore the scenic surroundings.

There are 2 types of car available, one with the glass floor and one without the glass floor. Car with the glass floor(approx 50RM/person) costs almost double of the other car (approx 25RM/person). 1 Cabin bag is allowed per person and 19 RM is charged for oversized luggage.

There is also an oversized luggage storage service available at level 2 of Awana Skyway building for 5 RM for 24 hours. The best part is that this ride starts near Genting Highland Premium Outlets, it is a heaven for all the shopaholics. You will find luxury brands at discounted rates here.

Skytropolis is an indoor theme park where you can enjoy multiple rides. Just because this is an indoor theme park you might assume that the rides will only be for children but this is not the case, my friend. There are a couple of daredevil rides! Pull your socks up and brace yourself to ride them.

This is your only chance to leave Skyavenue with more money than you came in with. You will not be allowed to carry shopping bags inside so they have paid lockers outside the Casino. The lockers are charged as per the hours you occupy it. The casino is open till late hours so you can enjoy other things first and then head towards the casino.

It is a good idea to keep a fixed betting amount in your mind. Do not spend more than that because there is no end to betting. You definitely do not want to enjoy the rest of your holidays without money.

This is not it, there is a bowling alley, karaoke lounge, Ripley’s believe it or not, Star Wars and much more. The fun is never-ending. If you think that you want to try it all then you will need a complete day so I will suggest you book a hotel and have unlimited fun.

There is a rooftop area where you can enjoy live singing in bars. There are so many restaurants to choose from in this avenue that you will be tired looking at the options. There is one food court on the ground floor and one on the top floor as well, apart from this, the cafes and restaurants are spread across all the floors.

It will be difficult for vegetarians to find a proper Indian restaurant here but don’t you worry. There is one Indian restaurant “Spice Garden” at the higher floors of the connected building. You can walk from SkyAvenue to the restaurant, just use the GPS. The food is fine.

You can check out more about SkyAvenue and more here.

Many animated shows take place outside the Skytropolis just like the one above(make it on full-screen mode, option on the right lower side). You can watch a couple of similar videos on my YouTube channel.

One of my favorite stops was “Molten Chocolate Cafe“, you can enjoy so many types of chocolate dessert here. This brand is Malaysia based and you can also find the cafes in Kuala Lumpur.

One dessert can easily replace your one meal. I got so excited about this cafe and wanted to try so many desserts that I returned to this cafe four times a day to try different different things.

Pro tip: Get the Genting Resort World membership card before buying anything in SkyAvenue because for every penny you spend you get points and you can redeem those points for some benefits later. The card is free of charge.

The First World Plaza has recently undergone a major renovation and it is still not complete, many shops are still vacant and some rides are still being installed but all the above-mentioned things are already so overwhelming, I am excited to know what more will be coming.

Hotels in Genting Highland

First World Hotel, Genting Highlands, Malaysia
First World Hotel, Genting Highland, Malaysia

The First world is the largest hotel with 7351 rooms and it is interconnected with SkyAvenue. I chose this hotel on my first trip but not this time. The reason being that I didn’t like the rooms much. No doubt they are cheap but I wanted a better room with a good view.

There are many types of room available here. If you would like to book this place then you must do it in advance because this hotel gets booked really fast.

Maxims is one of the finest hotels in Genting Highland. It is located just next to SkyAvenue and the booking of the hotel is possible through a limited number of travel portals. One of the few options is booking.com.

There are many good hotels nearby Skyavenue. I choose “Grand Ion Delemen“.

You can review the entire suite through the above video. The suite was good, the breakfast was fine though the location of the restaurant was really nice. It is located at the rooftop, you will be surrounded by clouds!

The hotel is around 10-15 minute away from the SkyAvenue but the hotel provides free pick-up and drops every hour. You just need to register 30 minutes in advance. Grab taxis are easily available for any kind of transfers.

The hotel was good and I can definitely recommend it to everyone. The room rates were also economical.
